Historic Site With Museum
THE BURIED VILLAGE EXPERIENCE. One of NZ’s most visited historic sites; Te Wairoa was literally buried in the 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera. Volcanic ash preserved many of the buildings and other features of the village and visitors today can get a rare insight into 19th-century New Zealand life. It’s an awe-inspiring and moving experience that is put into context by displays in the award winning Museum of Te Wairoa.
The 12 acre park-like setting is filled with tall trees, meadows and native birds offering visitors a peaceful and emotional experience at the same time. Cruise excursions and tours welcome.

HOBBITION MOVIE (Matamata)
Ye Shall Not Pass!
Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand. Here, you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogy in a fascinating two hour guided tour.
The set has been completely rebuilt and can be seen just as it appeared in the films. The Green Dragon Inn is now open and is a special feature of our tours. All tour groups visit the inn as part of their tour and receive a complimentary refreshment. There are also spectacular views to be enjoyed from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which still operates as a working sheep and beef farm, so visitors also get the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lambs.

TAURANGA ART GALLERY (Tauranga)
Exhibitions & Visitor Programmes
Situated on the corner of Wharf and Willow Streets, in the heart of the Tauranga CBD, the Tauranga Art Gallery building has been designed to meet modern art gallery standards. The Gallery delivers exhibitions of historical and contemporary art. Exhibitions are developed in-house by gallery staff with the balance being a mix of touring exhibitions from other institutions and artist projects.
The Gallery is open seven days a week (closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day and ANZAC Day until 1pm) between 10am - 4.30pm. A range of educational and visitor programmes are developed around the exhibitions to enhance the visitors' experience. Visitor programmes include debates, floor talks, guided tours, seminars, screenings, performances and artist residencies.

Skyline Rotorua is proud to present the Volcanic Hills wine tasting room. The winemakers invite you to sample their handcrafted wines from New Zealand's most recognised and respected wine regions.
The wine tasting room at the top of the Gondola is the first phase of the wine development, with tours of the Volcanic Hills winery at the base of the Gondola coming soon. The tasting room allows you to sample the best Volcanic Hills has to offer while enjoying the 180° panoramic views over Lake Rotorua. Guests then have the option to enjoy a meal in the Skyline Restaurant, where meals are matched with the appropriate Volcanic Hills wines.
Phase two of the development includes the completion of the wine making facilities at the bottom of the Gondola, where visitors will be able to see how the wine is made before taking the Gondola up to the tasting room. The wine tasting room is a fantastic addition to the range of activities and attractions on offer at Skyline Rotorua, and makes for a great cruise passenger shore excursion tour from your Tauranga port of call.
